Born in 1948 in Iran, Abbas Djavadi studied linguistics and oriental studies in Austria, Turkey, and Germany (Ph.D.), taught in Cologne, worked during 1985-2019 at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) as a journalist, service director, and regional manager. He has written several books and hundreds of articles in Persian, English, Turkish, and German on current affairs as well as the history and languages of Iran, Central Asia, and Turkey.
